Hi all, in my last post, I had spoken about why I love setting reading challenges (read here) and the adrenaline rush I get every time I close a book after completing it. today, I am going to share with you all the top 5 women authors that I have picked to read this year.
Every year I try to bring some changes into my reading style. From reading murder mysteries one year, to Indian authors the other and now tapping on more and more Asian authors, I love to venture and experiment with my books. But reading books by female authors has always been a treat for me and this year too, my reading list is going to be dominated by them, minimum of 5 out of my 25 planned books.
You ask why? Well for some reason unknown, I feel female authors tend to strike a chord with me and I understand them much better and resonate with their writing.
So lets see my list of 5 female writers and their book.
The Mountain Sing by Nguyen Phan Que Mai
Historical fiction is my favorite genre and this book is based on the lives of two women, a grandmother and a granddaughter who see their country being pushed to a breaking point but they don’t give up on their family. The author of this book is also a Vietnamese and has herself witnessed war devastating her country.
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
Again, a historical fiction by a Korean author, this book talks about a family who moves base from Korea to Japan. The book touches upon topics like racism, stereotyping and other 20th century experiences of Koreans in Japan. The book is 490 page long so I am going to take my time to complete this one for sure.
The Last Queen by Diva Banerjee Divakaruni
I have been an ardent fan of her writing and devoured many of her books in the past. Her latest release of 2021, The Last Queen is about Rani Jindan, the last and the most loved Queen of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The book tells her story and how she strived to protect her kingdom from the clutches of the Britishers. I have heard and read raving reviews about this book and can’t wait to start and review it myself.
When the moon is low by Nadia Hashimi
Nadia Hashimi is an Afghan American Pediatric and this is her 2nd book which is again based on the plight of women in Afghan. This book is a story of a woman of her beloved land to a refugee of an unknown land.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
The Help is an international bestseller and now an Oscar nominated movie. This book is about Black women raise white children but are not trusted a bit in the same house. The book has acclaimed a lot of appreciation world over and now is in my TBR list. This again is a lengthy read of 464 pages so it’s going to be a slow read.
So, this is my curated list of female authors and their books that I plan to read in 2022 and if I stumble up on some new and interesting books, I will be adding them too to my list and if the book really wins my over, a review will follow on my blog. So, stay tuned.

The Last Queen by Diva Banerjee Divakaruni is one book I am looking for such a long time. The cover itself and also the reviews I read about teh book gave a clear picture that its worth a read. The list you planned for authors is outstanding.
These are some books that are new to me. I loved this post so much that it has inspired me to read more books by female authors. The Last Queen is on my tbr for a long time now.

Thats a good variety. I want to pick The Last Queen and then The Help. I usually don’t have any TBR list. I mostly read whatever god come along and way and matches my interest. But now I will look into these two books.

Having a particular authors and their work to read is a good way to complete the reading challenge. I would pick ‘The Last Queen’ from the list as I had to read it last year too. We also made a conscious effort on reading Hindi books as regional lietrature also needs to be read.

Of these five, I’ve only read The Help and I had loved it. I also have The Last Queen on my TBR this year!

Recently, I finished reading “The palace of illusions” by Chitra and now I am tempted to pick the “Last Queen” seeing your list.
I haven’t read any of these however, I love female authors because I think they portray emotions really well. I will pick up one of these soon.
